Chaos edge out 100 Thieves to move on to playoffs at ESL One Cologne NA

The Joshua "⁠steel⁠" Nissan-led squad continues their fantastic run at ESL One Cologne North America, adding a second big scalp to their name after beating FURIA in the opener as they proceed to the playoffs with a close victory against 100 Thieves.

Chaos picked Nuke to kick off the series successfully and put 100 Thieves on the back foot, as the Australians struggled to make a mark early on the CT side after losing the second round to a forcebuy, courtesy of doubles from Erick "⁠Xeppaa⁠" Bach and Jonathan "⁠Jonji⁠" Carey.

The half could have been disastrous for 100T had it not been for Sean "⁠Gratisfaction⁠" Kaiwai saving a 1v3 clutch attempt from Nathan "⁠leaf⁠" Orf, which helped the favorites salvage their chances, with Joakim "⁠jkaem⁠" Myrbostad adding two big multikills to his name later on. But despite all the effort late in the first half, 100 Thieves couldn't break through the defense in the second, as Chaos quickly rallied to double digits and went on to strike first in the series with a relatively drama-less closing of Nuke at 16-10.

Chaos denied 100 Thieves a comeback on Mirage to clinch the series

100 Thieves replied with a powerful showing on Inferno. Chaos could not find their footing on the CT side until round 11, at which point it was already too late to attempt a comeback. With a 12-3 half in the bag, the Australian squad had little trouble sending the series to a third map after they also secured the second pistol round.

It came down to Mirage, where 100 Thieves got off the line first on the defense on the back of Gratisfaction's pistol round triple, but a halfbuy win and later in the half a massive 1v4 from leaf gave Chaos the space to put together a big streak and rack up a 9-6 half.

Chaos extended their lead early in the second half, but then it was 100 Thieves' turn to clutch a couple of rounds and begin mounting a comeback, closing the distance to just one round at 12-13. At that point, Chaos finally found the recipe for success with leaf and Anthony "⁠vanity⁠" Malaspina combining for five kills and the North American team edged out the victory at 16-13, 2-1.
